Hobart’s Different Record Shop.

About us

In 1982, Lin Stanton founded Aeroplane Records at the Salamanca Market in Hobart, Tasmania. The stall, and later the shop, became an institution among Hobart’s music community. The shop closed in 2005, but Lin carried on at the market until his passing in early 2020.

Lin left the stall to some of his closest friends and in February 2021 (almost 40 years since Lin’s first market stall), Aeroplane Records returned to the Salamanca Market. Since then, we have expanded to selling brand new vinyl, as well as secondhand, both at the market and online.

We take pride in our wide selection of genres including jazz, rock, electronic, soul, punk and country. We also sell releases by some of Tasmania’s best local artists.

We hope to see you soon at Hobart’s Different Record Shop.

We acknowledge the palawa people as the traditional custodians of the land on which we live (lutruwita).

We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge the ongoing contribution of Aboriginal people in enriching our community.
