The record could best be described as a concept instrumental hip-hop album or a storied beat-tape. John E samples from jazz, soul and funk records, meticulously sequenced, produced and performed with an AKAI 2500, to bring you beats possessing depth and honesty. Like life, ‘Better Late’ is humorous at times, while deeply troubling at others. Yet all the while it is soaked with entrancing beauty in a captivating tale. As Edmund Burke wrote, “Those who have much to hope and nothing to lose will always be dangerous.”
