Blvck Spvde & Stefan Ringer – Build A Temple (12" Single Vinyl)
Blvck Spvde and Stefan Ringer — two underground heroes of innovative heart music — merge slippery four-to-the-floor, sample-based life lessons and voicemail-infused soul to sweet effect on this debut collaboration.
Any fans of slick house will know that Atlanta's Stefan Ringer has been on red-hot form for a few years now. Releasing forward-thinking, soul-stepping projects for kinfolk labels like Eglo Records, NDATL, Black Acre, Dolfin Records (alongside badman, Ben Hixon) and his own FWM Entertainment (featuring Ash Lauryn). Each time heralding the US dance music tradition with a tinge of UK grit often thrown in.
Our love for his sound runs all the way back to his days as Rekchampa, but it took until 2019 for Errol and Alex Rita to formally connect. The pair partnered with Eglo Records for his UK debut; a still memorable night at Simulacra Studios/Loki, London.
This EP combination already stands apart from the rest with its approach and choice of personnel. The first time we've seen him collaborate across a whole project with one voice.
Missouri-based musician, bandleader and producer Blvck Spvde is a more than worthy spar mate. With a track record that moves from Hawthorne Headhunters' mid-2000s beatsy, future soul and the spiritual jazz of Blvck Spvde & The Cosmos to lacing Theo Parrish's summertime jam "Chemistry" alongside Steve Spacek and Andreya Triana, he's easily one of our favourite male voices.
We all have Ben Hixon and JT Donaldson to thank for sowing the seeds of this tag-team experiment. Back in 2018, he invited the pair to play at the annual Dolfin Fest in Texas. Both artists were billed on the same line up and after witnessing each other's magic, immediately got into the studio to work.
The result is the 'Build A Temple' EP, which also features friends Ari Lashell, Floyd Vader and Marquinn Mason across its 30min runtime.
